Genuinely bummed that I can't give this place 5 stars. It's within walking distance of my house, but every time I visit (3 or 4 times now) my questions are met with condescending, almost pretentious responses from the staff. I go to a bike shop because I don't know a ton about bikes, and I'm making an attempt to learn more and fix my sons and my own bike. I don't go to a bike shop to be made to feel stupid that I don't know the exact terminology or the exact name of the parts I'm looking for. Perhaps it's my fault, as an amateur trying to fix his own bike, for going to a place that only does business with pros? I was hoping for a more approachable, helpful place.
Wish I could give the mechanics six stars! Super prompt & professional service on my Felt Tri bike after being turned away from a different bike shop in Royal Oak, wish I had known about Downtown Ferndale Bike Shop two years ago when I first moved here. Dont judge a book by the cover, these guys are talented mechanics, even for bikes that might not fit in with the cruisers & single speeds being sold!
Just spent a couple hours here 6-13-18 with Doug, I think there are 2 Dougs. Doug was super helpful and all the guys in the shop were great as well. I enjoyed the non pressured experience and super cool about the test riding, there is a nice parking lot out back that has some nice area to roam around. I will admit that I went there because they are dealers of a specific brand of bike I was looking for. I also spent some time working in a bike shop when I was younger so learning about some of the innovations was cool also. They are genuinely interested in helping everyone with there bike problems and I witnessed a few as I was awaiting my bike to be prepped. They like talking bikes and I liked there educational way of speaking to there customers.
Who knew that getting a scooter fixed could be so much fun? Went in with a broken scooter that was for a poor man with a ruptured Achilles tendon...who'd been having too much fun on his scooter and ruptured that as well. It was missing pieces and unable to brake and I walked out in under an hour with the coolest, fully functional scooter on the block - complete with an awesome bell, basket, and water bottle holder. I wish I had a bike so I could break it to have a reason to go get it fixed too!
Great experience. I went in looking for a commuter bike, and they helped me find a good fit. One of the bikes caught my eye, and John took the time to explain each feature of the bike and why it was a good selection. This was my first time in the shop, but I'll definitely be going back in the future. Great customer service from all four of the guys working there.
